Matt C: Christmas. A time for giving. A time for taking your hard-earned cash and refraining from spending it all on yourself, instead selecting thoughtful gifts for others: your family, your friends and your loved ones. That's the idea at least, but as is often the case for comic book fans, the various publishers of our beloved artform have decided to throw a spanner into the works by forcing us to buy an increased amount of their wares just before the big day arrives. Sorry, kids - no expensive presents for you on Christmas Day. Image Comics made me spend all my money on myself by unleashing SEVEN books this Wednesday that I simply must have: Black Science #2, East Of West #8, Saga #17, Secret #4, Sex #9, Umbral #2 and Zero #4! I don't think there's been a week this year where I've purchased more than five Image books, so I sure am glad they've chosen the week before Christmas to hammer my wallet! But wait! What are Marvel playing at?! Sorry, my dearest wife, guess it'll be an 'IOU' this year - the House of Ideas have decided to release SIX of their finest titles all in one hit: Daredevil #34, Deadpool #21, Thor: God Of Thunder #16, Uncanny Avengers #15, X-Men #8 and Young Avengers #14! What's a guy gonna do?? Oh, look! Dark Horse have got The Massive #18 and BOOM! have got Hit #4 for me too! And of course, this being one of the busiest times of year in many folks social calendars, it begs the question: when the heck am I supposed to read all of these comics?!?
Stewart R: ... oh, excuse me, just getting my pre-Christmas comic list to Santa sorted. Think I've got everything on there. It's been and up and down sort of year, so not sure if I'll make the 'naughty' or 'nice' side of the divide, but how can the jolly old fellow, cherished by many around the globe (we're talking Santa here, not Stan Lee as many of you may have been leaning towards), deny a faithful reader a dose of illustrated joy at this time of year? I'm sure I'll wake up tomorrow and everything on my list will be there, unless of course the sled breaks or the reindeer suffer exhaustion from trying to lug around such a hefty load from the Diamond Warehouse...
On the last Wednesday before Christmas, the comic publishers gave to me (in exchange for cash):
Batman And Two-Face #26
Green Lantern: New Guardians #26
Black Science #2
East of West #8
Pretty Deadly #3
Superior Spider-Man #24
Uncanny Avengers #15
FIVE MINUTES REST!
Eternal Warrior #4
Imagine Agents #3
Transformers: Regeneration One #97
And that's an epic reading session for me!
