New comics are due to hit the shelves on Wednesday so here’s a look ahead at some of the books we’ll be picking up this week.
Andy H: Well, it looks like everything is back to normal this week. New comics arriving on Wednesday and a whole bundle of great titles to choose from. While I'm generally a massive fan of John Romita Jr, his take on Batman didn't quite grab me. All-Star Batman #6 has Jock taking over the art chores from JRJR, enough reason for me to pick this issue up. After his great run on Detective Comics with writer Scott Snyder, who wouldn't want to see Jock return and illustrate the Dark Knight as only he can? Storywise we have Bats heading to Alaska to prevent Mr Freeze creating a new Ice Age. Brrrr! I think James Bond: Felix Leiter #1 is a great idea. The recent Bond titles from Dynamite have been popular and the idea of giving his US counterpart a miniseries just seems the natural way to go. With the top notch creative team of James Robinson and Aaron Campbell involved (plus Mike Perkins providing cover art) it has a real chance for success and is worth the time of any Bond fan to check it out. This week we also have Southern Bastards #16 by Jason Aaron and Jason Latour, which means more from the villain of the piece, Coach Boss. A must-read for me. Russell Dauterman returns to art duties in Mighty Thor #15 (another Jason Aaron title). Thor still has her hands full with Malekith and his forces but now it looks like she'll be going toe to toe with the Shi'ar Empire as well. I'm never sure where Aaron is taking this character but I've not been disappointed yet and look forward to seeing where the title goes next. Inhumans Vs X-Men #2 continues the friction between the two groups. Better than I expected and beautifully drawn by Leinil Francis Yu, I'll stick with this series and see how it leads into the X-Men relaunch in a few months time. Finally, Justice League Vs Power Rangers #1! Yes, you read that right. It's the crossover we've been waiting for... possibly. Written by Injustice scribe Tom Taylor it could be worth a look. It's Morphin' Time!
Stewart R: It's all, ALL about God Country #1 for me this week. The latest book from Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw has been getting some very positive early reviews and this creative combo did such a great job on Paybacks that there's absolutely no way I'd miss it. Dealing with mid-western life, Alzheimer's and fantastical deities in one book is going to be an interesting and exciting ride! After a tentative step into issue one, I'll be picking up Motor Crush #2 to see if it continues to develop into a title I could see through until the end and of course Southern Bastards #16 appears on the ol' pull list which makes for a tantalizing - and probably violent - reading prospect! Happy reading one and all!
