On The Pull 14/06/2017

New comics are due to hit the shelves on Wednesday so here’s a look ahead at some of the books we’ll be picking up this week. Click here for a list of the latest releases.

Andy H: A bumper bundle of comics to look forward to this week. Dark Days: The Forge  #1 hurls a whole bunch of DC's greatest talent at us. Written by Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV with art by Jim Lee, Andy Kubert and John Romita, this one-shot sets the scene for DC's summer event, Metal. Members of the JLA begin to suspect Batman is hiding a darker secret than the secrets he's normally hiding. With such a roster of talent this is well worthy of a look. DC isn't all darkness this week as the DC/Looney tunes specials start. This week it's Legion Of Super-Heroes/Bugs Bunny Special and Martian Manhunter/Marvin The Martian Special. Always had a soft spot for Marvin so these are one-shots that will make the pull. Secret Empire rumbles on but unlike previous events this has me hooked. I'm really enjoying the run and this issue it's Ultron time! Issue #4 sees the return of Leinil Francis Yu as artist, still one of my favourites. Not one to miss a marketing opportunity, Marvel release Defenders #1. We've had various Defenders over the years but this team isn't rooted in Marvel nostalgia. Featuring Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist, it's lead from the world of Marvel TV and has a top notch creative team. Brian Michael Bendis scripts and we're treated to some gorgeous David Marquez art. Old Man Logan #25 marks the debut of the new creative team. Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino leave big shoes to fill but Ed Brisson and Mike Deodato could well be the chaps to do it. Throw in the Maestro as the big bad and it's a cracking start for the new team. Garth Ennis is back, doing what he does best, turning an established idea on it's head. Jimmy's Bastards #1 takes the James Bond concept and makes our suave spy pay for all his past 'romantic' liaisons as the results come a'calling. Yep, plenty to keep me going this week.

Kenny J: It’s a quiet week for me this Wednesday with only two new titles for me to pick up. First up is a comic spinning out of my favourite title in recent years, Bitch Planet: Triple Threat #1. This sounds like it is going to extend the world of Kelly Sue DeConnick’s exploitation-drenched tale of women fighting for their freedom on a prison planet. This book feature’s three stories with six creators promising to bring us rage and revolution. Two things that I love in a comic. The number of Marvel titles I’m getting on a weekly basis is starting to burgeon again. Wednesday brings another book to add to this growing list and it’s another one written by Brian Michael Bendis. The solicitation for The Defenders states that is going to be in the same vein as New Avengers, a comic series I really enjoyed almost a decade ago now. This tone will be perfect for the reformed team featuring characters from Netflix’s arm of the MCU - that’s Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage - as they take on the criminal underworld of New York.
