New comics are due to hit the shelves on Wednesday so here’s a look ahead at some of the books we’ll be picking up this week along with a full list of titles that will be available from Paradox Comics.
Jo S: With the excitement of Portsmouth Comic Con next weekend bubbling ever higher and the wonders of Free Comic Book Day just around the corner, I'm admittedly a little relieved to find my pull-list this week is feeling much more manageable than the gigantic marathons of the last couple. Not that I don't love a huge pile of comics to immerse myself in, but I'm hoping to find some treats in the back issue boxes next week to bolster my collection. It's tricky to pick a most-looked-forward-to in a week bearing both a Batman and a Meet The Skrulls issue, so I won't play favourites: the last Batman divided opinion a little at the PCG; personally I adored the dancing and the fashion show of Catwoman outfits through the ages and each of the issues since #50 where I started picking it up has been a treat in its own right. Meet The Skrulls is an under-the-radar stealth success - totally unexpected by a strong contender each week.
The Girl In The Bay has taken an interesting direction, mysticism, murder and monstrous intentions blend to make a unique approach on the time-jumped teens theme so I'm looking forward to that one. Having had the luck of being able to check out the FCBD preview of Under The Moon this weekend, I'm seriously tempted by the trade paperback of this tale of young Catwoman, which sees Selina Kyle struggling through a harsh and unloving childhood, fostering the loneliness and propensity for kleptomania on which she built her 'career'. Do check on the small format taster if you can get to your local comic book store before they all vanish on Saturday! A new series finally to wrap up my list: I talked about Aftershock's Descendent for our Shipping Forecast - an intriguing setup involving a kidnap, leading to a dark and decades-long conspiracy - this looks as if it will have some serious substance to it, with dark and violent intrigue centred on difficult emotional content. I might not make this one the last I read before bedtime!
